Have a closer look at this new CE yesterday and what I can say is ……………….
On the plastic parts, could be something to concern but dont think its a big deal. The plastic compartment & boxes will not harm the car performance if damaged and its easily replaceable. My Wira and Kancil also have this problem. Even my kancil uses cheap (RM1.50 each) plastic nipple for the radiator hoses connection which caused my kancil to almost on fire. But I dont see this in the new CE for sure.
Dashboard and interior trimming materials are comparable to Rush and Exora. I can say Exora dashboard also gives “cheap feeling” when touched compared to my aged Camry, but well, I should not compare it with Camry or Wish right!?……. the price tells! “you get what you pay”.
Exterior trimming comparable to Citra & Ria, if not better than Exora. Head & Rear lights looked better quality than “cheap looking” Exora lights. Bodywork well contoured and finished, much better than Exora “near-sharp” edges which look like a “boxed minivan”. Front grill and bumper materials much better than Citra.
Overall, looking at the “quality to it price”, the cabin and bodywork comparatively much better then Exora, Citra, Rondo, Ria and Rush, probably Innova & Livina too ……….. without prejudis……
The 2.0l new generation Ecteco engine coupled with Shiftronic gearbox for sure is a “WINning advantages ” over the rest in it class……. Exora, Rush, Ria, Citra …… . and with the price tag, this CE 2.0L MPV is a “dream comes true” to most of us,…… right!!? I myself as Malaysian, actually has wishes that PROTON will build such MPV since 15 years ago……… but so sad that PROTON has build that stupid JUARA and now the “anti-climax” EXORA ………. what a waste…………….
Back to this CE powertrain, my only doubt is on the engine. Its reliability and durability. Will this engine work and last well for it life?…… But when I think back, hey……….. so do CAMPRO…….. its even younger than Ecteco in term of technology. While Campro still struggling to get popular in own ground, million Ecteco engine has been sold in China and around the world for the past 12 years and still in growing production till now, with technology that meet current EUROIV standard on emission and performance.
My 2cents believed that this engine should be far more superior compared to Campro and Korean engine that powered Kia, Naza and Hyundai cars in Malaysia which has burned alot of Malaysian “pocket” to maintain it. For sure, it will not match Honda. Toyota and other established brand, however this is something that time only can tells ……….. at least Ecteco engine has been there for 12 year now, without major problem or re-call incident.
